Serendipity

Sometimes this world spins in such a way that things just happen to work out. Sometimes you get the chance to make a different for those you love in an unforeseen and unexpected way. That happened for me this weekend.

I had plans to visit a friend ~an hour and fifteen minutes from me. We went to a small museum and then decided to have lunch. I ordered food that, frankly, I don’t get to eat anymore and could only manage 3 or 4 bites so I got a box to take it with me.

We finished lunch and headed back to his place where were lounging around when I saw my niece posting in our family group chat. She was worried that her college had closed up campus for the Easter holiday weekend without telling anyone (it’s certainly possible she just overlooked the notification, too) and she was in the lobby of her dorm with no way to get to her room since all the key cards were locked out.

As it happened, my friend lives less than 10 minutes away from campus – so we headed over and picked her up. She was incredibly thankful and shared that the timing was perfect because she was just about to order food.

Well ya know what else is perfect? I have food, too!

She stayed with us for a couple hours until her boyfriend could pick her up after work.

On Sunday I had no real plans and decided to try to join a couple friends who were camping for the weekend. It was one of their birthdays and I thought it would be a nice surprise.

As luck would have it, the weather turned soured and they were going to be packing it in early so I stayed home and went about enjoying my weekend.

Around mid-day a friend reached out and asked for help with his cat. He’s well aware I’m allergic to cats but asked if I’d be able to get him a ride to the emergency vet because his cat needed emergency surgery. I gladly agreed to get him and his cat to the vet where the cat underwent successful surgery.

Two of the people I love most in the world were in situations where they needed help and based on nothing more than happenstance I was in a position, and a location, where I could help both of them.

It was a very good weekend.
